How to Create a Nutrition Facts Label From a Single Ingredient

There are some cases where you may want to view the Nutrition Facts Panel for an individual Ingredient from the database. To do so, you will create a Recipe and add the Ingredient to the Recipe as one serving of the Ingredient.

Like so:

Step 1: Go to New and select Recipe
new-Recipe

Step 2: Name the Recipe and select "A recipe makes 1 serving."  Click OK when you're finished.

Step 3: Add the Ingredient with its serving size. To find the appropriate serving size for a food, reference the Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed tables.

In this example, we're going to see the Nutrition Facts panel for a peach. One serving is 140 grams.

Step 4: Click View Label. The Label with appear with the nutrition breakdown.

Step 5: If you wish, you can edit the label to include, for example, a household measure for the serving size, number of servings per container and voluntary nutrients. To make these and other modifications, select Edit Label.

  • Under General, add "1 cup sliced" as a Serving Size and enter "2" for Servings per Container.
  • For Voluntary Nutrients, check Vitamin A and Phosphorus. The modified label will look like this:
